BOCA RATON, Fla. - The no. 23 Florida Atlantic University softball team split a doubleheader with Louisiana Tech on Saturday. The Owls (29-7, 6-2 Conference USA) won the first game 6-0, but dropped the nightcap 5-2.
Game 1 Notables
• Kylee Hanson threw a complete game, one hit shutout for her 14th win of the year. Hanson faced just one batter over the minimum.
• Melissa Martinez went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.
• Emily Lochten went 1-for-3 and a steal of home.

Key Plays
In the third inning, a single, a Lady Techster error and a walk loaded the bases for FAU in the bottom of the third. Carnesha Thompson reached on a fielder's choice that scored Alex Miller. After a forceout at the plate, Melissa Martinez singled in Thompson and her twin sister Christina to put FAU ahead 3-0. Later in the inning, Lochten stole home and a second La. Tech error allowed Melissa Martinez to score. Sarah Bencivenga scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to account for the final score.

Game 2 Notables
• Amanda Wilson dropped to 8-4 in the circle.
• Christina Martinez went 2-for-3 and scored a run.

Key Plays
Louisiana Tech scored two runs in the third inning on a two-run base hit. A groundout in the top of the third pushed the lead to 3-0. A Tatum Buckley base hit in the bottom of the third scored Lochten and put the Owls on the board. Christina Martinez scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth to pull FAU within 3-2. However, the Lady Techsters scored two runs in the top of the seventh to go back up by three. The Owls were retired in order in the seventh to end the game.
