BOCA RATON, Fla. â€" Senior Billy Endris scored three runs to lead the No. 16 Florida Atlantic University baseball team to a 4-1 win, capping a two-game sweep of St. Joseph's on Wednesday.
"We used a bunch of guys we hadn't used a lot," FAU Head Coach John McCormack said. "It's never easy to beat a team twice in that short of a time span, so I certainly appreciated how well these guys played."
The Owls improved to 11-1 on the year and 7-1 at home, winning their fourth in a row. Endris went 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI on a solo home run while CJ Chatham went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The duo tallied back-to-back hits three times in the contest.
Robbie Coursel earned the win in his first appearance of the season and set the Owls up early by retiring the Hawks on just five pitches in the first.
Endris singled with one out in the first before Chatham roped a triple to center field for the RBI.
Endris again helped the cause in the fifth, launching his first home run of the year, a solo shot over the right-center wall to double the lead to 2-0.
The Hawks managed to get on the board with a lone run in the seventh, but Alex House got out of the jam, leaving the tying run on third, as part of his career-high four strikeout outing for FAU.
Endris singled up the middle with one out in the bottom of the frame and moved into scoring position on another single by Chatham. Senior Christian Dicks doubled down the right-field line and Esteban Puerta hit a sacrifice fly to bring two insurance runs across for the Owls.
Cameron Ragsdale picked up his fourth save of the season as he sat the Hawks down in order, including back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
The Owls host Rutgers in a three-game series starting Friday, March 11 at 6:30 p.m. Video streams of each game will be available on FAUSports.com through a subscription. For tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS or visit FAUSports.com.
