Softball Takes Two vs. Detroit, 8-0 & 10-6

BOCA RATON, Fla. -Â The Florida Atlantic University Owls (19-2) returned home from Las Vegas to break into the Nation's top-25 at 25, picked up two wins versus Detroit and will celebrate their "Spring Break" by hosting a Parents' Weekend Tournament starting this Thursday.
Game 1 Notables
- Tatum Buckley was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Carnesha Thompson walked three times and scored three times
- Melissa Martinez was 1-for-2 with 3 RBI
- Mickey Bell was 1-for-2 with 2 RBI.
- Tatum Buckley picked up the five-inning victory and improved to 6-0.
Game Changer FAU scored three runs in each of the first two frames. And tallied one in both the fourth and fifth to run rule Detroit at 8-0 after five innings of play. Buckley held Detroit scoreless through five. She allowed just four hits in the game and retired four via a strikeouts.
Game 2 Notables
- Christina Martinez was 4-for-4 and scored three of the team's 10 runs.
- Both Delaney Rickey and Carnesha Thompson were 2-for-4.
- Thompson, Emily Lochten and Melissa Martinez, the 3-4-5 hitters, tallied two RBI each.
- Melissa Martinez hit a solo homer. Her third of the year.
- Amanda Wilson moved to 6-1 on the year.
Game Changer
Both teams scored three runs in the first inning, while Detroit added a run in its second and third inning. The Owls took their first lead of the game by scoring four in the bottom of the third. Christina Martinez lead-off the inning with a double. Carnesha Thompson singled and Melissa Martinez walked to load the bases. Emily Lochten and Mia Olson, the game's starting pitcher, both walked and recorded RBIs and the final run of the inning was scored on a wild pitch. Detroit would score its final run of the game in the top of the fourth while FAU scored one in the fourth and two in the fifth for the game's 10-6 final. Olson pitched 2.2 innings, gave up two hits, walked five and struck out three. She was relieved by Amanda Wilson, who moved to 6-1 on the year, Wilson pitched the final 4.1 innings for the win. She did not surrender a walk and struck out six.

The Owls will host play host to the "2016 Parents' Weekend Tournament" featuring Robert Morris, Mercer, LIU-Brooklyn, Minnesota, UMass and Rutgers.
