BOCA RATON, Fla. - A NFCA All-American and reigning Conference USA Female Student-Athlete of the Year, Florida Atlantic University softball pitcher Kylee Hanson was selected as an invitee to the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Camp, the organization announced on Wednesday.
"It's very exciting," said Hanson. "Making the National Team has been a lifelong dream of mine and this is the first step along that path."
Hanson is one of 52 invitees to receive an invitation to the camp, which is held at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex in Clearwater, Florida, from January 1-5, 2017. Additional athletes may be invited at a later date.
During the selection process, athletes will participate in position drills as well as simulated games and be evaluated by the USA Softball Women's National Team Selection Committee. For the WNT, athletes who make the 2017 USA Softball WNT roster will be competing at a Pan American Games/World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Championship Qualifier in Florida, where the U.S. will look to qualify for the 2018 WBSC Women's World Championship to be held in Chiba, Japan, and the 2019 Pan American Games to be held in Lima, Peru.
Hanson posted one of the most dominant campaigns in school history in 2016. The rising senior finished the 2016 season with a 28-5 record while leading the nation in ERA (0.76), shutouts (15) and hits per seven innings (3.33). She was named a Top 10 Finalist for the USA Softball Player of the Year and earned C-USA Pitcher of the Year honors.
