ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the UCF/Hagerty Invitational on Saturday.
The men's team finished third of six teams. Michael Vidal was FAU's top finisher in the 8k, coming in fourth with a final time of 27:02.60. Christian Small followed, coming in 16th place with a time of 28:00.06. Small's time was a personal record. Freshman newcomer Conor Fitzgerald finished next in a time of 28:01.10.
Joshua Nicholas and Jonathan Werble rounded out the scoring for the Owls. The other FAU competitors who rounded out the group were John Marting, John Przygocki, Ross Rabalais, Jehal Thompson.
The women's team finished fifth in the 5K, led by Jasmine Van Tine. Van Tine was FAU's top finisher, coming in 19th place with a final time of 19:53.63. Followed close behind was Erica Lersch, who finished in 26th with a time of 20:16.08. Jessica Brinson came in 44th place in 21:46.63 with Christina Humphries close behind, earning 52nd with a final time of 22:17. Grace Mendez, Gabriella Ciraco and Kelsey Meltzer rounded out FAU's competitors, finishing 57th, 60th and 62nd, respectively. Van Tine, Brinson and Mendez all set personal records.
"We were able to gain experience for a lot of our freshmen runners and that should serve us well going forward," said FAU Head Cross Country Coach Alex Smolka.
The Owls will travel to Gainesville for the Gator Cross Country Invitational.
