BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - A season-high ten extra-base hits propelled the Florida Atlantic University baseball team to an 18-4 Conference USA victory at UAB Saturday. The Owls (34-11, 16-7 C-USA) saw six players with multi-hit outings on the day.
In just his second start of the year, junior Billy Endris belted a double and back-to-back triples en route to a 3-for-5 day with three RBI and three runs scored. CJ Chatham hit two doubles and a home run to tally four RBI while Roman Collins blasted a grand slam and tallied five RBI. Brendon Sanger went 2-for-3 with a home run and three walks, earning his 102nd total base on the year.
UAB (20-24, 11-12 C-USA) struck with a lone run in the first before FAU took its first lead of the series in the second. Esteban Puerta walked and Christian Dicks singled, setting up Chatham for an RBI double to tie the game. Sophomore Kevin Abraham then laced a single up the middle to put the Owls on top 3-1.
FAU extended the lead in the third as Ricky Santiago led off the frame with a double and came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Puerta.
With two outs in the fourth, Endris doubled, Sanger was intentionally walked and Santiago singled to third to load the bases before Collins drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Owls up 5-1.
The Owls continued their two-out prowess when Endris hit a two-RBI triple in the fifth. Endris was 3-for-3 with two outs with three two-out RBI.
UAB threatened in the sixth, scoring two runs, but left the bases loaded. The Blazers stranded 13 on the day.
Endris hit his second triple in the seventh to plate Stephen Kerr before walks to Sanger and Santiago loaded the bags. Collins then sent a 2-1 pitch sailing over the right field wall for FAU's third grand slam of the season to increase the lead to 12-4.
The Owls blew the contest wide open with a six-run ninth inning featuring a two-run homer by Sanger and a three-run blast by Chatham.
