BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Florida Atlantic University baseball team saw a streak of 59 games without a shutout come to an end on Friday as the Owls lost 6-0 at UAB.
FAU (33-11, 15-7 C-USA) was held to four hits on the night with two each coming off the bats of junior Brendon Sanger and sophomore CJ Chatham.
UAB (24-19, 11-11 C-USA) struck in the second on a leadoff walk, a wild pitch and an RBI double by Jeff Schalk.
The Owls had runners on base in five of the first six innings, but were unable to bring any across the plate.
The Blazers rallied for five runs in the fifth inning, batting through the order on four hits and an FAU error to increase the lead to 6-0.
David McKay pitched the sixth for the Owls, striking out two, before Mark Nowatnick closed out the game with two shutout innings of work. Sean Labsan was charged with the loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
UAB's James Naile dealt 7.2 innings, walking one with four hits and five strikeouts.
