LEXINGTON, Ky. - Florida Atlantic University junior third baseman Carnesha Thompson went 3-for-6 on the day, including a homerun, but the FAU softball team lost a doubleheader to #13 Kentucky on Monday.

FAU (26-14-1) lost the first game 3-1. Three Owl errors and two Wildcat hits allowed Kentucky (26-11) to score three runs in the bottom of the third inning. FAU answered in the top of the fourth when Thompson drove in Lindsey Shellwith a base hit up the middle. The Owls threatened in the sixth and actually had the tying run on second base in the top of the seventh, but the UK third baseman snagged a liner to end the game.

UK won game two 7-1. The Wildcats again scored three runs in the third inning on two hits, two walks and two illegal pitches. Thompson, likewise, responded in the next half inning, this time with a solo homerun to left field, her second of the season. UK broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Owls tried to mount a rally, but were unable to score, sealing the sweep.

"In the first game, we gave them too much help with the errors," said FAU head coach Joan Joyce. "In the second game, we couldn't seem to get that one hit when we needed it that would have really put some pressure on (Kentucky). Then, late in the game, they had a big inning that put (the game) out of reach."

The Owls will return to Boca Raton to host Charlotte in a three-game series beginning on Saturday, April 11. The first game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
