BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic men's tennis played two home matches on Friday winning both in convincing fashion 7-0. The Owls faced Bethune Cookman in the early match and then returned to the court to beat St. Thomas University 7-0 as well.
In their first against Bethune Cookman FAU won at every position that finished in both singles and doubles. In doubles senior Robert Dubuque and freshman Zandrix Acob defeated Diego Garavito and Gilbert Rotich 6-3, and FAU senior Sean Bacha and sophomore Stefan Burnett defeated Alvara Barreara and Greg Almedia 6-0.
Singles was a complete FAU sweep with the Owls winning at all positions. FAU only lost two sets in the entire match and gave up less than five games in three of the six positions.
In their second match of the day FAU defeated St. Thomas with another sweep 7-0. FAU sophomore Gerald Nickerson saw his first dual match action of the season playing both singles and doubles against St. Thomas. Nickerson won his singles match defeating Matias Dasso 6-2, 4-2 with Dasso retiring in the second set due to injury. FAU once again swept the singles and doubles in every position and looked dominant in their second match on the day giving up four games or less in five of the six singles postions.
The two wins pull FAU to 6-6 on the season with their next match at home against Duquesne on March 3, at 12p.m.
