Florida Atlantic University softball (15-2) fell 4-0 to Stephen F. Austin in their second meeting during the Purple and Gold Challenge hosted by LSU on Saturday.

"We hit the ball hard, but we couldn't string any hits together," said Joan Joyce, head coach. "We gave up two homeruns, which was key in the game for the Ladyjacks." Senior Sarah Howell led the Owls going 2-for-2, while Lindsey Shell, Christina Martinez, Laura Mann, and Tatum Buckley each had one hit. Buckley was in the circle, and the freshman saw her first loss of the season giving up five hits and walking four batters.

The game was a defensive battle until the top of the fifth when Stephen F. Austin scored three runs off a homerun hit by Brittany Lewis. A solo homerun in the top of the sixth would bring the Ladyjacks up 4-0.

The Owls tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh when Mann started off with a single through the right side. With one out, Buckley singled to left and advanced Kiley Southall, who was pinch running for Mann, to third. A pop up to first and a fly out to left field would end the game.
