Bethany Hardcastle concluded her first season with Florida Atlantic University's women's cross country team at the NCAA South Regional Championships on Friday morning.
Hardcastle competed in the 6K run, crossing the finish line in 22:42.40. The Stuart, Florida native, set a personal record topping her previous best at USF where she finished 16th overall with a final time of 22:52.20. Hardcastle led the Owls in the 5K at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships on Oct. 31 with a 37th-place finish. The sophomore crossed the finish line in 18:57.3, setting a personal best. Another top finish for Hardcastle this season came at the FSU Invitational, finishing 17th overall and second for FAU (19:03.90).
"I was happy with the way Bethany ran today, it was a tough course. She was able to beat some athletes that she previously lost too in high school so that was great to see. Finishing middle of the pack as a freshman and being able to set a new PR from her previous time at USF shows her improvement over this season. I look forward to seeing how Bethany can continue to improve and translate that into continued success for seasons to come." Said Cross Country Head Coach Alex Smolka.
