FAU Cross Country to Compete in Disney Cross Country Classic

The Florida Atlantic University cross country teams will compete in the 20th Annual Disney Cross Country Classic on Saturday, Oct. 10th. The men will participate in the 8k event that will start at 7:40 a.m. The women will start at 5k at 8:30 a.m.

Teams competing: More than 25 teams will participate.

Previous meet: The FAU cross country teams competed in the FSU Invitational last Friday. The men's team finished the meet in sixth place and the women's team finished one better in fifth. For the men, senior Christian Small was FAU's top finisher in the 8k, with a 27th place finish, a final time of 27:52.10. Freshman Conor Fitzgerald followed with a 31st place finish (28:10.90. The women were led by sophomore Liz Wellman who finished the 5k event 15th, with a final time of 19:01.20. Freshman Bethany Hardcastle followed with a 17th place finish (19:03.90).

History: The Owls have competed in the Disney Cross Country Classic for many years. In 2014, only the women's team competed in the Disney Classic and finished 2nd, their best finishe din the 5K event since 2005. The Owls had an average time of 18:45.16 for a team total of 56 points. 10 of FAU's 15 competitors finished in the top 50. Chloe Sell led the charge, coming in 4th place out of 250 runners with a final time of 18:11.37. Also finishing in the top 10 was Liz Wellman, who came in seventh with a time of 18:27.25. In 2013, Sell finished sixth overall and recorded the sixth best time in school history.
