The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Conference USA Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31st in Bowling Green, Ky. The men's 8k is set to begin at 9 a.m. CST, and the women's 5k will begin at 10 a.m. CST.
Teams competing: All C-USA men's and women's cross country teams will be participating in the championship meet, which will be hosted by Western Kentucky University.
Previous meet: The Owls competed at the USF Invitational last week, with Sophomore Liz Wellman came in 11th overall in the women's 6k, and was FAU's top finisher with a final time of 22:39.00. Bethany Hardcastle finished closely after, coming in 16th overall with a final time of 22:52.20. The women's team had eighteen runners compete and took fifth place out of 10 Division 1 teams with an average time of 23:06.12.
History: Last year, The Florida Atlantic University women's cross country team made history at the Conference USA Championships, when they posted their lowest 5k team average at a conference meet in school history with a time of 18:31.1.. Freshman Liz Wellman was FAU's top finisher, coming in 30th with a career-best time of 18:12.8. This time puts her in seventh place on FAU's All-Time Top 10 List. Veteran Tara Cripe came in right behind Wellman in 33rd place with a final time of 18:15.4, which is her best finish of the season. The Owls finished one spot higher than 2013, coming in ninth place out of 13 teams with a total of 200 points
In 2013, the Owls' first appearance as a member of C-USA, the women's team posted their lowest 5K team average (18:47.57) in school history at the 2013 C-USA Championships. Chloe Sell was the team leader, crossing the finish line in 13th place with a final time of 17:46.90. Her finish secured her a Second-Team All-Conference award. Marla Keyes finished behind Sell in 38th place with a final time of 18:37.18. Tara Cripe finished third for FAU running a personal record of 18:43.76. The women finished in 10th place out of 15 teams.

Next meet: The men and women will head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to compete in the NCAA South Region Championships on Friday, Nov. 13.
