FAU Cross Country to Compete in C-USA Championships

The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the Conference USA Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31st in Bowling Green, Ky. The men's 8k is set to begin at 9 a.m. CST, and the women's 5k will begin at 10 a.m. CST.
Teams competing: All C-USA men's and women's cross country teams will be participating in the championship meet, which will be hosted by Western Kentucky University.
Previous meet: The men's team took fifth place out of nine Division 1 teams at the UCF Invitational with an average time of 27:48.96. The consistent freshman Conor Fitzgerald led the way for the Owls finishing in 13th place overall with a time of 26:56.00 in the men's 8k. Senior Christian Small finished closely after, coming in 20th overall with a final time of 27:19.20. Coming in 35th place, recording his best finish and time was freshman Jehal Thompson with a time of 28:06.10. Other Personal records were achieved from Conor Fitzgerald, and Johanny Przygocki.
History: Last year, FAU's top finisher was Josh Peterson. Peterson finished in 42nd place with a final time of 25:58.4. This is the first time the senior has come in under 26 minutes and marks the fifth best time in the 8k on FAU's All-Time Top 10 List. Senior Adam Simon was the next finisher for FAU, claiming 67th place with a final time of 27:38.6. Rounding out the FAU's runners were Matthew McFall, Josh Nicholas, Connor Bergin, and Djery Clement. The Owls finished in 11th place with 306 total points and a team average time of 28:06.4.
In 2013, for the men, Michael Vidal was FAU's top finisher, and his final time of 26:48.91 in the 8k was good for 39th place. Josh Peterson recorded FAU's second-best finish of the day with a final time of 27:41.97. Christian Small and Josh Nicholas finished just seconds apart, crossing the finish line in 28:35.53 and 28:41.94, respectively. Adam Simon rounded out the men's team, finishing in 28:57.81, nearly 20-seconds faster than last year's conference meet finish (29:15.50). The men came in 12th place overall.

Next meet: The men and women will head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to compete in the NCAA South Region Championships on Friday, Nov. 13.
