Women's Basketball Falls to UCF in Season Opener

The Knights (1-0) needed a 41-point, career-high performance by Zykira Lewis to capture the victory. Lewis also contributed seven rebounds and three blocks.
The Owls (0-1) were led by junior newcomer Ali Gorrell who also posted a career high with 26 points and five rebounds. Freshman Malia Kency scored nine second-half points en route to her 12 on the day while sophomore Shaneese Bailey also reached double-digits with 10 points.
Following nine lead changes in the first half, UCF went on a 13-0 run over the final 2:16 of the opening frame to take a 51-32 lead at the intermission.
A 22-7 run to open the second half would push the Knights to their largest lead of the game at 73-39 with 12:34 to play.
FAU then pieced together a 16-5 run, but UCF's lead proved insurmountable.
The Owls stay on the road to face Bethune-Cookman on Sunday, Nov. 16 before hosting Cleveland State and Western Illinois next weekend. Live broadcasts of each of FAU's games can be found on FAUSports.com.
