JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (September 13, 2013) - Friday the 13th turned out to be a lucky day for the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team as the Owls (1-4-1) picked up a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Lions (2-2). FAU's game-winning goal was scored in the 82nd minute by junior newcomer Rebecca Zoltie.
The victory marked the first under Head Coach Patrick Baker, who took the helm in February, 2013. It was Baker's 246th career victory as a head coach.
The Lions took a 1-0 advantage in the first half when Alexa Yow scored on a header in the 20th minute. FAU goalkeeper Courtney Zwetsch kept the Owls in the game, however, making four saves all in the second half.
Columbia aided the Owls when it scored an own goal on a header following a foul in the 76th minute. Zoltie, who had entered the game only eight minutes prior, drilled a free kick from 30 yards out to put FAU on top 2-1.
The Owls allowed only one shot on goal over the final 20 minutes, sealing their first victory of the season.
FAU returns to the pitch to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
