The largest crowd in five years was on hand at the FAU Soccer Stadium Friday night to see new Head Coach Patrick Baker lead the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team for the first time. The Owls fell to the University at Albany 2-0 in front of a crowd of 381, the most since FAU hosted Florida in 2008.
FAU held the Great Danes scoreless until the 38th minute when Anna Seneta netted a pass from Aubrey VanGorder. Despite seven shot attempts in the opening half for FAU, the Owls were unable to find the back of the net.
Albany added to its lead in the 79th minute after a foul allowed Stephanie Nelle to setup Helena Olafsdottir for the insurance goal. The closest the Owls came to scoring was when a shot by freshman Kayla Faulkner ricocheted off the left post early in the second half.
Senoir Courtney Zwetsch made three saves and the Owls tallied 15 shots to Albany's seven.
FAU returns to action Sunday at 1 p.m., hosting the University of Arizona at the FAU Soccer Stadium.
