Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team won on four of the six singles courts to pick up its first victory of the season, 4-3, over Sun Belt Conference rival Troy University on Sunday afternoon at Patch Reef Park.
Senior Jose Fantova clinched the match with a three-set victory at No. 2 singles. He won the deciding set by a 6-3 score.
After losing the matches lone doubles point in a tiebreaker, the Owls quickly gained momentum in singles. Sophomore Will Neuner dropped only one game in winning at No. 1 singles. Also, freshman Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff earned a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 3 singles.
Troy (1-4) answered with wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions to grab a 3-2 advantage. However, sophomore Robert Dubuque pulled out three-set match at No. 6 singles to even the match. Dubuque defeated Troy's Tadju Davies 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 for his first spring dual-match victory.
Then, Fantova clinched the match with his singles victory.
FAU improves to 1-3 on the season and will travel to in-state rival UCF on Friday, February 8 at 2 p.m. in Orlando.
