Orlando, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 match to in-state rival UCF on Friday, February 8. This marked the sixth straight season that the teams' matches have been decided by a 4-3 score.
FAU (1-4) grabbed the doubles point after getting victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 matches. At the top of the lineup, the duo of senior Jose Fantova and sophomore Will Neuner improved to 3-1 on the season with an 8-5 victory. Then, sophomore Robert Dubuque and freshman Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff picked up an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles, Fantova won a three-set match at the No. 2 position. He captured the opening set by a 7-5 score and came back to capture the deciding third set by a convincing 6-2 score.
Morin-Kougoucheff lost only three games to win the No. 3 singles match. Meanwhile, UCF (3-3) earned three-set victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to pick up the home court victory.
The Owls are scheduled to return to the court on Friday, February 15 against Hampton University in a match being played in Daytona Beach.
