DeLand, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team dropped a 5-2 decision to in-state foe Stetson University on Saturday afternoon in DeLand.
The Owls, 1-5 for the season, will wrap up non-conference action against UAB on Sunday, September 16, at 11 a.m. from the FAU Soccer Stadium, 777 Glades Road on the Boca Raton campus.
Freshman forward Taylor Sorrels gave the Owls an early lead in the fourth minute with her team-leading second goal of the season. The scoring opportunity was set up by freshman midfielder Claire Emslie, who led Sorrels to a one-on-one situation.
The host Hatters squared the match with Mara Keomanivane's goal in the 12th minute. Then, Jorje Pierce gave Stetson a 2-1 advantage in the 43rd minute.
In the second half, FAU junior midfielder Marisa Russo closed the gap with her first goal of the season, finding the upper right corner of the net from 15 yards out in the 58th minute. That brought the Owls to within 3-2.
The hosts scored three second-half goals to post the victory, improving to 2-4 on the season.
FAU senior goalkeeper Ashley Lantes tied her career-high with 14 saves in the match.
Offensively, junior forward Brittney Nash and Russo led the team with two shots apiece.
