A volleyballer and soccer goalkeeper are this week's Florida Atlantic co-female "Student Athletes of the Week."
Sophomore outside hitter Alessia Pizzoccheri had double-doubles in both of FAU's matches this past week. In the Owls' match against Arkansas State, the Cesena, Italy native had 18 kills and 10 digs. In Sunday's match against UALR, Pizzoccheri had 22 kills and 22 digs, which were career highs in both categories. For the week, she had two double-doubles and averaged 4.44 kills and 3.56 digs per set.
Senior goalkeeper Ashley Lantes was instrumental in the women's soccer team splitting a pair of road matches to open the Sun Belt Conference season. She made six saves in posting her eighth career shutout in a 2-0 win at Troy on September 21. Then, against South Alabama she kept the Owls within striking distance in a 1-0 road loss with five saves. The Clermont, Fla. native recorded a .917 save percentage for the week.
