Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team scored early and relied on a career-high 14 saves from junior goalkeeper Ashley Lantes to pick up a 1-0 victory over Furman University on Friday night at the FAU Soccer Stadium in Boca Raton.

Junior forward Allison Griffin was at the right spot in the right time to put the Owls on top in the 14^th minute. A touch pass from redshirt junior midfielder Meghan Brown put Griffin behind the Paladin defense for an open shot at the goal. The Palm Bay native successfully converted for the game-winning goal, her second tally of the season.

"I went hard into the box after Meghan flicked the ball over the defense. I was able to finish the scoring opportunity and help the team," said Griffin.

On the other end of the field, Lantes was kept very busy in front of the FAU goal. She made seven saves in each half to record her third shutout of the season. Another 10 shots failed to threaten the Owls' goal as Furman outshot the hosts by a 24-7 margin. Lantes' 14 saves beat her previous best of 12 saves against the University of Arkansas in 2009.

"We were able to dig down deep tonight. We were absorbing enormous pressure but we found a way to finish the game and get a good home win," said Dooley. "This wasn't pretty but you're never going to turn away a 1-0 victory."

Sophomore forward Jesse Shugg tallied four of the team's seven shots, including one on goal. Sophomore midfielder Marisa Russo, sophomore forward Brittney Nash and Griffin each had one shot.

FAU improved to 4-3 on the season for its first winning non-conference record since 2005. The team is 4-1 at home and has recorded a shutout in three of its five home matches this season.

Furman drops to 4-4 on the fall campaign. The loss broke a three-match winning steak which included a 3-2 victory at Clemson University.

The Owls will open Sun Belt Conference action on Friday, September 23, with a game at Arkansas State University.
