BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team ended its regular season in difficult fashion, losing to FIU 1-0 on Saturday.
The Owls (31-24, 15-9 Sun Belt) and Panthers (30-25, 14-10) both had numerous chances to put runs across in the game. FAU had runners on second and third with no outs in the bottom of the second, but a double play and a flyout ended the inning.
FIU had runners reach in three of the first four innings, but was unable to manage a run. The Panthers finally broke the tie in the fifth when a sacrifice fly scored the game's only run.
FAU will be the no. 2 seed at next week's Sun Belt tournament and will face Western Kentucky in its first game. Live stats of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
