BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's track and field team participated at the NCAA East Preliminaries in Bloomington, Indiana. Three Owls represented FAU at the track meet competing against some of the best athletes in the nation. Ashani Roberts, Danielle Aromashodu and Friederike Feil competed at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex May 26-28.
"Overall it was a great experience," said Head Coach Alex Smolka, "With Iki (Friederike Feil) she battled injuries, won conference and had bad luck at regionals. Hopefully the other two will be back next year."
On Thursday Aromashodu was the first to compete for FAU and ran the 400 meter hurdlers in a time of 1:01.61. The following day both Roberts and Feil also competed. Roberts who came in ranked 23rd placed 15th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.49 meters which was two inches short of advancing to the NCAA Championship, while Feil who wore her FAU jersey for the last time ran an 11:21.11 in the 3,000m steeple chase and did not advance either.
Roberts who is a junior this year and Aromashodu who is a freshman will both be returning next year to compete with the Owls.
"Danielle (Aromashodu) is a conference champion and Ashani (Roberts) placed second at conference. Now they have a taste of regionals and will get a chance to advance next year," said Smolka.
