BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team split a doubleheader with ULM on Saturday night.
Prior to the first game, the team recognized head coach Joan Joyce for winning her 700th career game. All of FAU's offense came in the second inning when Kerri Croney cleared the bases with a three-run triple that put the Owls ahead 3-0. ULM cut into in the fifth on an RBI groundout to make the score 3-1. The Warhawks had the leadoff batter reach in the sixth inning, but left her stranded. Rose Gressley threw a complete game four hitter to get the win.
In the first inning of game two, ULM used three hits, two hit batters and an FAU fielding error to take a 2-0 lead. FAU scored in the bottom of the inning when Gressley singled in Brittany to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. The Owls took the lead the next inning on RBI hits by Whitley Herb and Croney. The Warhawks tied the game at 3 in the third on a solo homerun. The score remained tied until ULM scored four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-3. FAU had the winning run on second base with two outs in the seventh, but a popout to short ended the game.
