TROY, AL - Rose Gressley had six RBI on Saturday, including four in the second game as the Florida Atlantic softball team split a doubleheader against Troy.
Two walks and a Sarah Harris homerun put Troy (26-19, 7-7 Sun Belt) ahead 3-0 in the first inning of game one. The Owls struggled to catch up with Troy starter Ashlyn Williams, notching only two hits in the first six innings. Heather Barnes singled to center in the seventh, followed by Rose Gressley hitting her second homerun of the season and pulling FAU (27-21, 11-6) within one at 3-2. Taylor Fawbush reached on a Trojan fielding error, but a popup to first ended the game.
In game two, the Owls scored four runs on five hits to seize control of the ball game early. FAU never maintained its advantage throughout the game and led 5-1 in the sixth inning when an illegal pitch allowed and a Barnes base hit scored two more runs. Gressley then hit her second homerun of the day, this one a three run shot that gave the Owls a 10-1 lead.
Troy scored a run in the bottom of the inning and had the runner that would have avoided the mercy rule on third base, but a grounder to short ended the game. FAU will meet Troy in the rubber match on Sunday, with the game starting at 2 p.m. eastern. Live stats of the game will be available at www.fausports.com.
