Boca Raton, Fla. - Sweeping all nine matches, the Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team got back in the win column with a dominant 7-0 victory over the University of Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Wednesday afternoon at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton.

The win improved the Owls to 3-9 on the season and stopped a four-match losing streak. The team returns to the court on Friday, March 11, for a pair of matches in Orlando against Radford University, starting at 9 a.m., before battling the University of North Dakota, at 2:30 p.m. FAU returns to Boca Raton on Sunday, March 13, for a match against Troy University of the Sun Belt Conference, starting at 10 a.m.

The Owls made quick work of the Cougars in doubles action, dropping a combined seven games to sweep all three matches. The duo of junior Justine Humair and sophomore Marlene Ryan clinched the doubles point with a 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.

The strong play continued into singles as FAU did not drop a set in the six singles matches. Sophomore Natasha Phillips cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to improve her record to 8-4 this season.

Senior Virginia Augustin dropped one game to win at No. 5 singles to even her record at 5-5. Junior Cassie Bergeson won both sets by identical 6-1 scores at No. 4 singles to clinch the team victory. Humair won 6-2, 6-0 to anchor the singles lineup, while sophomore Natasha Basma earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 3 position for her fourth win of the season. Ryan rounded out the winners with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 2 singles. The Delray Beach native leads the team with a 9-8 overall singles record.
