Women's Tennis Sweeps Pair of Friday Matches

Orlando, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University nearly doubled its season's victory total after sweeping a pair of matches by identical 6-1 scorers against Radford College and the University of North Dakota on Friday in Orlando.
The Owls have now won three straight matches to improve their record to 5-9 for the spring season.
FAU made quick work of Radford by winning eight of the nine matches and sweeping five of the six singles matches in straight-set verdicts.
Junior Justine Humair clinched the team victory with a 6-3, 6-1 victory to anchor the singles lineup, while sophomore Marlene Ryan was victories at No. 2 singles 7-5, 6-0. Rounding out the winners was sophomore Natasha Basma (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 4 position; senior Virginia Augustin (6-1, 6-0) at No. 5 singles; and junior Erika Mrazkova (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6 singles.
Later in the day, the Owls won five of the six singles matches against North Dakota. Ryan secured the team victory with a straight-set win (6-3, 6-1) at No. 2 singles to clinch the fourth team point. Sophomore Natasha Phillips won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles in her only match of the day. Humair rallied to win a three-set match at No. 1 singles by 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8) scores, while Augustin also won a three-set decision at No. 4 singles by 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (6) scores.
Florida Atlantic will return to the court on Sunday, March 13, when it hosts Sun Belt Conference rival Troy University. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. in Patch Reef Park, 1200 Yamato Road in Boca Raton.
