MURFREESBORO, TN - The Florida Atlantic softball team split a doubleheader with Middle Tennessee on Tuesday.
The Owls (19-17, 3-2 Sun Belt) dropped the opening game of the doubleheader 4-0. A solo homerun in the second inning put the Blue Raiders ahead 1-0. A Lindsay Davenport single drove in Natalie Ysais in the fifth inning to make the score 2-0. Back-to-back solo homeruns in the sixth inning gave MTSU (10-20, 4-7) a 4-0 lead. FAU's best chance to score came in the fifth inning when they had the bases loaded, but a fielder's choice to second ended the threat.
The second game was delayed for over an hour due to rain and lightning in the area. After play resumed, Rose Gressley put the Owls ahead in the third inning with a two-run base hit, soon followed by a Carly Speerin RBI single that made the score 3-1. Two more runs scored on a Speerin fielders' choice in the fifth inning. She eventually came around to score on a Cari Curfman single. The Blue Raiders scored a run in both the fifth and sixth innings, but got no closer and the Owls won the game 6-3.
The Owls and Blue Raiders will face off in the rubber game of the series on Sunday. The game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. eastern. Live stats of the game will be available via GameTracker at www.fausports.com.
