Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team won consecutive matches for the first time this spring and improved its record to 4-3 on the season with a decisive 6-1 victory over the Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers on Saturday.

The Owls will now prepare for a showdown with South Florida rival University of Miami on Sunday, February 20, in Coral Gables, starting at 3 p.m. The Hurricanes are nationally ranked this spring.

"I hope some local Owls' fans make it to our match and give our boys the FAU energy," said Brandon Stokes, FAU's head men's tennis coach.

On Saturday, the senior duo of Marc Abdelnour and Ervin Garibovic led the team's doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory in the No. 1 match. Abdelnour then dropped only four games to post a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at No. 1 singles over FGCU's Matt Rock. Abdelnour entered the match nationally ranked and improved his singles record to 6-1 for the spring season.

Not to be outdone, Garibovic earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. Other winners were senior Daniel Vardag, a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victor at No. 3; freshman Oliver Webb, also a three-set winner at No. 4; and freshman Omar El Kheshen, with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 6.

Posting doubles victories were the teams of junior Derek Madon and Webb, at No. 2 by an 8-5 score, and Vardag and Kheshen, at No. 3 by an 8-3 decision.
