BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team split its two games on the first day of the FAU Kick-Off Classic. The Owls fell to eighth-ranked Michigan 13-0 in their first game. Kerri Croney, Cari Curfman and Whitley Herb all had hits in the loss.
FAU defeated Long Island 2-0 in the final game of the day. The Owls scored two runs in the second inning when Jordan Stovall scored on a sacrifice bunt attempt by Carly Speerin. An LIU throwing error allowed Joshlyn Martinez to also score on the play.
That was all the offense Taylor Fawbush would need. The sophomore threw 5 2/3 no-hit innings and struck out 10 in the complete game shutout.
Action in the FAU Kick-Off Classic resumes on Saturday when Michigan and Tulsa plat at 9 a.m. The Owls return to the field at 6 p.m. for a doubleheader against UMass and Penn State.
