BOCA RATON, FL - Teri Stamps paced FAU with 12 points but the Owls could not overcome a double-digit second-half deficit in a 64-57 loss against Troy on Sunday at Sartain Hall.
"We need to be better on the glass," said head coach Chancellor Dugan. "If we can't rebound then we are going to have trouble finding a way to win games."
The Owls (3-10, 0-2) were outmanned on the glass 44-30 and allowed 20 offensive rebounds for the third time this season.
The Trojans (4-11, 1-1) held a 28-24 lead at the break after a back-and-forth first half. In the second period, Troy held their largest advantage at 56-39 with six minutes left after a pair of free throws by Donette McNair. McNair finished the game with 19 points and 13 rebounds en route to her seventh double-double of the season.
However, FAU went on a furious 18-8 run to close the game and had an opportunity to take the lead with a Teri Stamps three-pointer in the final minute. The junior could not connect and Troy iced the game at the free-throw line to secure the win.
The Owls will return to south Florida after six days on the road and continue Sun Belt play on Wednesday against South Alabama. Tip-off against the Jaguars is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the FAU Arena. Live audio of the game will be available on www.fausports.com.
