BOCA RATON, FL - Lyrell Barfield scored 13 of her 16 points in the second half but the FAU women's basketball team fell to South Alabama 65-53 in the Owls' Sun Belt home opener on Wednesday night at the FAU Arena.
The Owls (3-11, 0-3) were paced by Barfield's second-half surge which saw her hit three three-point field goals.
Breana Turner also continued her strong offensive play with 14 points and five rebounds. The junior has now scored 76 points in her last five games.
The Jaguars (9-6, 1-2) held a slim three-point lead at halftime and were able to hold that lead throughout the entire second half en route to the victory.
South Alabama also was able to hold FAU's offense in check as the Owls shot only 26.5% for the game.
FAU will try to shake off the five-game losing streak this Saturday when they welcome another Sun Belt foe to Boca Raton. Fresh off a road victory at FIU on Wednesday night, Arkansas State will visit the Burrow for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
Live audio of the game will be available on www.fausports.com.
