BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's cornerback Tavious Polo and running back Alfred Morris were named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team, the conference office announced today.
Polo, a redshirt senior from Fort Lauderdale, had 42 tackles in 2009 and an interception, which he returned for a touchdown against the University of Wyoming. He was named a Freshman All-American in 2007, but suffered with injuries the past two seasons.
Morris, a redshirt junior from Pensacola, emerged as a starter at the end of the 2009 spring football practices and used that momentum to win the 2009 Sun Belt Conference rushing crown. His 1,432 yards on the season set an FAU single season record and helped him move to 3rd on FAU football's career rushing list. Morris also was named FAU's Male Student-Athlete of the Year for the 2009-10 year.
As a team, the Owls were picked to finish fifth in a poll of all the Sun Belt Conference head coaches. Middle Tennessee was picked to win the conference, picking up five of the nine first place votes. Defending champion Troy was picked to finish second, followed by Arkansas State, Louisiana and FAU. FIU, ULM, North Texas and WKU rounded out the standings.
The poll and teams were released as part of Sun Belt Media Days, which begins today and ends on Tuesday, July 20.
