BOCA RATON, FL - Former Florida Atlantic University men's soccer player Alex Yanovych recently signed a two-year professional contract for FK Pribam in the Ganbrinus Liga, a first-division league in the Czech Republic.
"It has been a great experience," Yanovych said. "It's great to have my name on the game roster and be immersed in that environment, and to experience that atmosphere from the field."
Yanovych is no stranger to the professional level in Eastern Europe. His father also played professional soccer for the Ukraine and for the Czech Republic. Yanovych remembers his father's playing days and is happy to be a part of the action instead of watching.
"It's a different experience to view it from the field," Yanovych said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to plate at the next level."
The four-year standout of Key West High School recorded 51 goals and 21 assists at the prep level. Collegiately, Alex started at the University of Missouri- Kansas City under its coach Rick Benben for two seasons and tallied five goals. .
Before transferring to FAU prior to the 2008 season, the L'viv, Ukraine native was named to the Mid- Continent Conference All- Academic team.
At two seasons at FAU, Yanovych saw action in 22 games and recorded one assist. Yanovych hopes to stay with FK Pribram, which finished 10th out of 16 teams in the Ganbrinus Liga last season.
"It has been a great time for me," Yanovych said. Even though it's a tough business where everyone fights on the field to make a living, I wouldn't change it for any other job."
