Baseball Concludes Fall Practice with World Series Competition

BOCA RATON, FL - The end of fall practice for the FAU Baseball team means only one thing, the World Series. Even though the San Francisco Giants are already celebrating their Fall Classic victory, members of the FAU Baseball team will compete this week to crown another World Series champion.
"I always look forward to the World Series at the end of each fall," said head coach John McCormack. "It's great to see the guys compete against each other and they look forward to the series as well."
In game one of the best-of-three series on Sunday, it was a pitcher's duel as the game ended in a 0-0 tie after seven innings.
Assistant coaches Brad Frick and Ben Sanderson each sent their aces to the mound and neither team's offense was able to get rolling.
For coach Frick's team, RHP Cody Barnes, LHP Josh Gonzaga and RHP Hugh Adams combined for the shutout allowing only three hits with nine combined strikeouts.
"The offense was scarce," McCormack said. "Both clubs played very good defensive baseball." Coach Sanderson sent RHP Ryan Garton and RHP Paul Davis to the bump and they combined for a one-hit shutout over seven innings with 12 strikeouts.
"The pitching performances for both teams were unbelievable," McCormack said. "Each guy kept matching the previous guy and it was enjoyable to watch."
On offense, Alex Hudak, Dan Scheffler, Nathan Pittman and Corey Keller each recorded hits, but those were the only knocks of the game. On the defensive side, both clubs played error free baseball.
The World Series competition will continue on Wednesday at the FAU Baseball Stadium with first pitch at 3 p.m. The final game will be held on Friday also with a 3 p.m. first pitch.
