DENTON, TX - Rose Gressley threw a six-hitter and Blair Bodenmiller went 3-for-3 and was a double short of the cycle in Florida Atlantic's 7-1 won over South Alabama at the Sun Belt Tournament on Thursday.
Bodenmiller put FAU (29-28) ahead 1-0 with a solo homerun in the first inning. The Owls scored two runs in the fifth inning when the Jaguar second baseman dropped a popup with the bases loaded that allowed Bodenmiller and Ambar Jones to score. The Owls added two runs in the sixth on back-to-back homeruns by Becky Brandies and Kerri Croney.
RBIs by Amy Bukovich and Rose Gressley in the seventh inning provided the final margin of victory. Gressley allowed six hits and one run in six innings for her team-best ninth win of the year.
The Owls will play the winner of Friday's Western Kentucky-South Alabama game at 6:30 p.m. eastern on Friday. Live stats will be available via GameTracker at www.fausports.com.
