BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's men's tennis fell in the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Championship Sunday afternoon to Middle Tennessee State University 4-1.
FAU, ranked no. 80 nationally, ends its 2009 season with a 18-8 record under first-year head coach Brandon Stokes and has seen sophomore Marc Abdelnour tally a 26-6 record while junior Lawrence Harradine finished his season with a 25-7 mark.
MTSU, ranked no. 60 nationally, picked up the doubles point capturing court one and two.
Daniel Vardag played no. 2 for the Owls and fell to John Peers, ranked no. 104 nationally, 6-1, 6-2. Holding a 2-0 advantage FAU freshman Santiago Nieto pick up the Owls lone point to push the match to 2-1. Nieto defeated Kyle Wishing 6-2, 6-3.
MTSU would close out the match with a victory on court five and four, respectively.
FAU will return all but one, senior Eddie Majcher, for the 2010 season with an eye on building upon the outstanding 2009 season.
