BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's softball team (6-4) will return home this weekend to co-host the Strike Out Cancer tournament with Florida International University.
The tournament will take place Friday, February 20 through Sunday, February 22 at the FAU Softball Complex, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The tournament will include the University of Arkansas, the University of Missouri, Fordham University, Providence College and tournament co-host FIU. Missouri and Arkansas are both 2008 NCAA Tournament teams. FAU will play Arkansas twice over the course of the tournament.
The FAU softball team also will wear pink jerseys during the Sunday, February 22 game at noon against Providence University to promote breast cancer awareness. The Owls had a 2-3 series this past weekend at the Lipton Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville. FAU defeated Texas Tech twice, but lost to Florida, Georgia Tech and Coastal Carolina University.
The tournament will double as a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Pledge cards will be available to fans to donate according to the number of strikeouts their favorite team records during the game. Fans also will be able to make a general donation for FAU Athletics' participation in the FAU "Relay for Life," on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 at the A. D. Henderson Field, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.
