Softball Heads to Gainesville

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University softball team will return to Gainesville, FL for the first time since the 2006 NCAA Regional to take part in the Lipton Invitational, hosted by the University of Florida.
The tournament begins at 8 a.m. on Friday, February 13 when the Owls (4-1) face Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets (3-1) ended their 2008 season in Gainesville, falling to UCF, 7-2.
FAU will then face Texas Tech in their next two tournament games, at 2:45 p.m. on Friday and 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Red Raiders (2-2) and Owls last met in the FAU 2007 Pepsi Classic. The Owls scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal an 8-7 win.
Tournament host Florida is slated as the Owls third tournament opponent, at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Gators (2-1) were the nation's preseason no. 1 team after posting 70 wins and advancing to the Women's College World Series in 2008.
FAU will wrap up the tournament by facing Coastal Carolina at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, February 15. CCU will open its season at the UF Lipton Invitational.
FAU will return home the following weekend when they co-host the Strike Out Cancer Tournament with FIU. The tournament will be held February 20-22 and will feature the University of Arkansas, the University of Missouri, Fordham University and Providence University.
