Mike Tomasi takes over Iron Owl lead

BOCA RATON, FL - The Iron Owl event continued last week as pitcher Mike Tomasi scored a team-best 131 points in the 5th event. The victory for Tomasi gives him the overall lead in the Iron Owl standings with 284 total points.
The 5th event tested each player's knowledge of their teammates by quizzing them on eachothers names and hometowns.
Last week's leader Mike Albaladejo finished 3rd in the event with 100 points and slipped to 3rd overall in the standings with 269 points. Lou Morey maintained his 2nd place position from a week ago with 275 total points.
The award indentifies the strongest Owl baseball player - both mentally and physically. A series of events will be held throughout the fall season that will test each student-athletes' physical strength, knowledge of the game and academic performance.
Each event and category will be graded and a running total of each player's rank is kept by the FAU coaching staff.
The `Iron Owl' competition was debuted prior to the 2009 preseason. Its goal is the encouragement of team camaraderie, while at the same time making sure each individual player understands what is like to compete on a daily basis. It is our aim that each player reaches their highest-potential in the weight room, on the field and in the classroom.
This year's winner will be offically crowned during the Owls 2010 home opener.
