The Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team will see where they stand early in the season at this weekend's Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Southeast Regional. Competition is Thursday, October 22 through Monday, October 26 at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.
The Owls ended 2009 as one of the nation's top ranked teams and will send four individuals to the elite competition.
Junior Marc Abdelnour comes into the season ranked 69th in the United States, according to the most recent ITA ratings, and will compete in the main singles and double draws competition divisions. He begins play on Friday at 11 a.m. against rival Vahid Mirzadeh of Florida State University. Abdenour will partner with freshman Georg Matschke in doubles action. The tandem is scheduled to face a team from Georgia State University in the first round.
Other early-round singles matches include junior Lawrence Harradine squaring off against Nate Schnugg of UGA, senior Daniel Vardag playing Aaron May of FSU and Matschke facing Ryan Smith of Georgia Tech.
In doubles competition, the duo of Harradine and Vardag will begin play by playing a team from the University of Florida.
Championship-round matches in the regional are scheduled on Monday.
