The Florida Atlantic University football team returned to action on Monday for their first three-a-day practice of the fall season. The first two practices were held outside the Oxley Center practice fields with the nightcap moved to the Track and Field Complex due to more rain in the Boca Raton area.
Team drills highlighted the final practice of the day, with the offensive and defensive units working on first down, hurry up and red zone situations. Two of the tight ends made a case for playing time in the final practice. Jamari Grant worked out with the first team and caught a few receptions from Rusty Smith, one of which he had to hang on to while getting drilled over the middle by defensive back Greg Joseph. Darian Williams also worked out well, catching a couple of long passes with the second unit. One of the receptions was highlighted by a great play by Jeff VanCamp, who stepped up in the pocket to elude pressure and find Williams alone 25 yards up field. The day ended with the special teams working on kickoff returns and coverage.
Coach Howard Schnellenberger and the defending Sun Belt and New Orleans Bowl Champion FAU Owls will host Fan Fest on Saturday, August 16 beginning at noon at the FAU Track and Field complex. Bring the whole family for a day of football and fun as the Owls football team will be available for autographs before taking part in a scrimmage at 2 p.m.
Season and individual game tickets are on sale now. The Owls begin their home schedule against the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Saturday, September 6 at 4 p.m. at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 1-866-FAU-OWLS.
