TROY, AL - In their quest to repeat as Sun Belt Tournament Champions, the Florida Atlantic softball team hit an early roadblock as it was defeated by ULM 5-4 on Wednesday.
Amber Barton gave FAU an early 1-0 lead when she hit her team-leading fourth homerun of the season in the bottom of the first inning. The Warhawks left the bases loaded in the fourth inning without scoring a run. In the fifth, the Owls added two runs in the fifth inning when Melissa Moore drove in Jessica Myers, later followed by Ambar Jones scored on a Lauren Crandall sac fly to make the score 3-0 in favor of FAU.
ULM tied the game on a three run homer by Megan McNeill in the top of the sixth inning and took the lead later in that inning on a Brianna Love RBI single. Jessica Myers tied the game when her base hit drove in Blair Bodenmiller to tie the game at 4.
The Warhawks regained the lead 5-4 in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly. Lauren Crandall lead off the bottom of the seventh with a base hit and advanced to second on a Kerri Croney sacrifice bunt, but Becky Brandies and Blair Bodenmiller were both retired to end the game.
FAU falls into the loser's bracket and will play the loser of the Troy-North Texas game at 11 a.m. Thursday morning.
