Owls Narrowly Miss Championship Match

After having its first match of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament postponed due to rain on Friday, the Florida Atlantic University men's tennis team played two matches on Saturday. The Owls came away with a 4-1 win over UALR in the first round, but saw no. 45 Denver sneak away with a 4-3 win on Saturday evening.
Against no. 1 seeded Denver, the Owls managed to take a 3-2 lead in singles as Olivier Sajous took a two-set victory over no. 18 Adam Holmstrom at the no. 1 spot. Marc Abdelnour secured a two-set win in the no. 2 spot and Lawrence Harradine took a three-set victory at no. 6. With the final match of singles play holding the fate of the Pioneers, David Simson kept the match alive by rebounding from a first set loss to defeat Corey Smith 5-7, 7-5, 7-6.
Denver kept the momentum as it won the doubles point to secure its spot in the Conference Championship match. FAU will play in the consolation match against third-seeded Middle Tennessee on Sunday at 3 p.m. et.
