BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team split its two games on Day Two of the Miken Classic.
FAU (14-11)lost to Florida Gulf Coast 7-2 in its first game of the day. The Eagles got out to a quick start by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. They added two more runs in the fourth on a Carmen Paez homerun. FAU scored in the sixth when Amber Barton homered down the left field line to cut the deficit to 5-2. FGCU added two more runs in the top of the seventh and the Owls were unable to mount a comeback.
In the final game of the day, the Owls. Amy Bukovich got things started in the top of the first by hitting a two-run double that scored Barton and Becky Brandies. The Redhawks responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to cut the Owls' lead in half. FAU added to its lead in the top of the fifth inning when Brittany Walker stole home and Caitlyn Bliss and Hailey Broyles added RBI doubles to give FAU a 5-1.
SEMO used six hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull even at 6. The Owls were able to retake the lead 7-5 in the top of the seventh inning on a Caitlyn Bliss and a Ashlyn Parmerter sacrifice fly. Lauren Bradley led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo homerun to close within a run at 7-6. Amber Barton relieved Rose Gressley and after surrendering a walk Carmen Fowler, Allie Borowiak grounded into a game-ending double play for her first save of the year.
The Owls will face FGCU in a rematch for in Sunday's Championship game. Bethune-Cookman and SE Missouri State will play at 9 a.m. and Eastern Illinois and Towson will play at 11 a.m. All of the day's action will be available via GameTracker at fausports.com.
