BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team lost to Florida Gulf Coast 3-2 in the Championship Game of the Miken Classic. The game was a rematch from Saturday night when the Owls fell 7-2.
Melissa Moore gave the Owls (14-12) a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a homerun to right field that also drove in Jessica Myers. FGCU answered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Samantha Waldron drove in Jessica Paez with a single to right field. The Eagles tied the game in the third on a solo homerun by Carmen Paez.
The game was still tied in the bottom of the sixth when Waldron drove in Samantha Jenks to give FGCU a 3-2 lead. Lauren Crandall reached base in the top of the seventh, but was left stranded as the Owls were retired. Eagle outfielder Carmen Paez was named Tournament MVP.
The Owls return to action on Wednesday night when they host Western Kentucky for a Sun Belt season opening doubleheader. Action will start at 6 p.m. Live stats will be available via GameTracker at fausports.com.
