BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic (24-18, 6-2 Sun Belt) softball team swept South Alabama in a doubleheader on Saturday night.
Caitlyn Bliss put the Owls ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning of game one with an RBI single to right field. USA (17-16, 3-5) tied the game in the top of the third on a double by Kelsy Donaldson. The Jaguars took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning on a base hit that drove in Ashley Elmore.
FAU tied the game again in the bottom of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Rose Gressley. The Owls took the lead in the sixth on back to back RBI hits by Kerri Croney and Jessica Myers. The 4-2 win snapped a three game losing streak for the Owls.
In the second game, the Owls once again scored in the first inning, this time pushing across two runs on a Bliss groundout and a Gressley single. The Jaguars had the bases loaded in the top of the second, but only scored one run. FAU extended the lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning when Amy Bukovich doubled in Becky Brandies. USA loaded the bases again in the sixth inning, but Gressley struck out Evelyne Pare to end the inning. USA was retired in order in the seventh to end the game.
