Owls Split Doubleheader With North Texas

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic (22-16, 4-1) softball team split a doubleheader against North Texas on Friday.
The first game was a pitchers' duel with FAU's Amber Barton and UNT's Jennifer Smith both throwing shutouts through seven innings. Becky Brandies broke the deadlock in the top of the eighth when she singled up the middle to drive in Barton. North Texas (14-17, 5-3) had the tying run on second with two out in the bottom of the inning, but Courtney Bradshaw fouled out to Caitlyn Bliss to end the game.
FAU got on the board early in the second game, taking a 1-0 lead when Caitlyn Bliss successfully executed a squeeze play to drive in Jessica Myers in the top of the first. North Texas tied the game on a solo homerun by Maritza Martinez. The Mean Green scored two runs in the fourth inning and ended the game by scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The final run came on a solo homerun by Rebecca Waters.
The Owls will face North Texas in the rubber match of the three game series tomorrow at 2 p.m. eastern. Live stats and play-by-play of the game will be available at fausports.com.
