BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic's pitching staff issued 12 walks allowing visiting Louisiana-Lafayette to win its first conference game of 2008, 9-3 Saturday at FAU Stadium.
FAU's potent offense was held in check by ULL's 6-foot-2 left-hander Hunter Moody, who pitched eight innings to win for the third time in four starts this season.
Florida Atlantic (9-6; 2-1 SBC) put multiple runners on base in four different innings, but stranded 11 runners. The Owls had entered Saturday's game scoring over nine runs per contest.
Louisiana-Lafayette (6-10; 1-4 SBC) won for the first time in five league games despite being out-hit 12-7.
The Rajin' Cajuns scored three runs on a bases-clearing double by Josh Logan in the second inning and assumed a four-run advantage in the third courtesy of a bases-loaded walk by FAU starter Jeff Beliveau (1-1).
Florida Atlantic pitchers walked-in two of ULL's nine runs Saturday. The Owls' staff issued 14 free-passes in all, walking 12, hitting a batter while yet another reached on a strikeout and subsequent wild pitch.
Nolan Gisclair hit a three-run homer in the top of the eighth to make it an 8-0. It was Glisclair's fourth homerun of the year, all coming this week.
Moody (3-1) allowed just two runs in his longest outing of the season thus far, with both runs coming via an Alex Silversmith homer to left-centerfield in the FAU eighth.
ULL's victory on Saturday evened the three-game weekend set at one game apiece. Sunday's rubber match is scheduled for 12 p.m.
